'Saawariya'Review
Saawariya
Music Director: Monty Sharma, Sanjay Leela Bhansali;
Lyricist: Sameer, Nusrat Badr;
Singers: Alka Yagnik, Shail Hada, Richa Sharma, Parthiv Gohil, Shreya Ghoshal, Kunal Ganjawala, Shaan.
Almost everyone was looking forward to the soundtrack of “Saawariya” because the music of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films is usually appealing. And this time too, with Monty Sharma composing the music and Sameer and Nusrat Badr writing the lyrics, the songs of “Saawariya” ought to strike a chord with the music lovers.
The title track “Saawariya” is an amazing number that gets you humming along. Shail Hada, who renders this piece, is just brilliant. The song is like a breath of fresh air. Its catchy and romantic.
My personal favorite which is high on romance is “Jab se tere naina”. Sung by Shaan, who usually does justice to romantic numbers, the music of “Jab se…” is great
Remote sound of 'Allah' marks the beginning of 'Masha-Allah' which is the first duet of the album. Kunal Ganjawala and Shreya Ghoshal come together for this song in which one can expect scenic locations to compliment the song's setting. While the song mainly belongs to Kunal Ganjawala who does a fine job, Shreya Ghoshal is mainly relegated to giving 'alaap' in the background.
As the name suggests, “Pari” is a complete fairytale sort of a track. It is a lovely romantic song that has melody, rhythm, serene instrumental music and beautiful vocals.
‘Jaan-e-jaan’ is just average.
'Thode Badmash' has Shreya Ghoshal as the solo singer. With a classical base to it, this Nusrat Badr written song is mainly created for a situation in the movie.
‘Sawar gayi’ is a mediocre number. While most of the numbers in “Saawariya” impress, “Sawar gayi” is not up to the mark.
'Yoon Shabnami', qualifies to be one of those songs that makes for a peaceful hearing. This Sandeep Nath written track has newcomer Parthiv Gohil singing and doing a rather decent job.
Almost all the songs in the soundtrack of “Saawariya” are high on melody, music with a classical touch and poetic lyrics, which raise the standards of quality music in Bollywood. But what remains to be seen is whether this album clicks with the masses or not because personally ( I could be wrong) I feel that this music is too elite.
