IMI personnel broke all previous conventions in what was one of the biggest mass territorial cleansing operations this month. As many as 7 shops were simultaneously raided at Amberpet, Nizamabad Town on the 18th of April. Furthermore 2044 MP3 CDs and 1537 pirated DVDs worth several lakh rupees were seized.

Accused Ashish Kumar Jain sentenced to 2 ½ years Rigorous Imprisonment

In a historic Judgement ever made by the Indian Legal system against the Pirates, The Magistrate in Jabalpur, sentenced the accused Ashish Kumar Jain to 2 ½ years RI under section 63 and 2 ½ years under section 68A of the Copyright Act. Both sentences will run concurrently. The Magistrate also imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakhs u/s 63 and Rs. 10,000/- u/s 68A and ordered confiscation of the seized material.

In yet another case filed in 1998 in Jabalpur, the owner of the shop ‘Music World’, Mehfooz Alam was sentenced to 1 year Rigourous Imprisonment u/s 63 and 1 year Rigorous Imprisonment u/s 68A of the Copyright Act and a fine of Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 5,000/- was respectively imposed.

With this The IMI has not only awakened the courts and LAW in India against Piracy and set an example but also sent out a very clear, loud and strong signal to the Pirates "BEWARE or BE BEHIND BARS".  

In Tamil Nadu the IMI team brought 13 of the most wanted and notorious pirates within the clutches of the LAW. All Thirteen accused were convicted by the court. One of them was sentenced to 3 ½ months imprisonment , Two of them were fined Rs. 6000/- and the remaining 10 were fined Rs.5000/- each.

Pirates With State Wide Networks Arrested

On 23rd April in a daring IMI raid on a godown in Egmore, Chennai,  two well-known suppliers to local hawkers were arrested. The IMI team had been had been following their movements since quite sometime. The 2 people identified as Moorthy and Raja Mohamed, were also wanted in several other cases

On the 30th April, 3 premises in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, were raided by the IMI team. The arrested, Pankaj Behani and Ajai Kumar were well-known pirates having a vast network all across the country. Sources revealed a majority of pirates in the state of Punjab bought CD's and other material from them. The IMI team is taking all efforts to ensure that these notorious distributors of Pirated material do not escape the LAW. The distributors of Pirated CD's as in any industry are very powerful and their networks wide spread. With these successful raids and such raids to intensify in the coming months , The IMI team is tightening its noose around these powerful and wide spread pirate networks in India.
