PIRATES
A
relentless spate of raids by
IMI and the
Kerala state police teams meant a biting winter for
vendors of pirated music goods in Kerala. IMI raided over 200 premises in Kerala and
got 213 notorious pirates arrested. Congratulations to
the IMI team and Mr.Rishiraj Singh the nodal officer
spearheading this anti-piracy campaign.
Replicating the Kerala Model, the IMI team has taken
another brave step of proposing to the Tamil Nadu State Government, the
Introduction Of The GOONDA
ACT.

Naseem Ahmed, a wanted pirate in
several cases.

IMI IN TALKS TO INTRODUCE THE
'GOONDA ACT' IN TAMIL NADU
TAMIL NADU (Dec '06) : This winter Chennai
saw some major action as police forces along with
IMI taskforce combed the areas of Kodungalyur,
Kancheepuram, Anna Nagar, Ponneri, Burma Bazaar
alongwith several corners of the city and arrested
more than 50 people. In various meetings
and correspondences with the Tamil Nadu State
Government, the IMI has raised the issue of
introducing the Goonda Act and the state
Government has reacted positively. The GOONDA ACT,
a law as stringent as POTA is also used to arrest
those suspected of murder. The pirates brought to
book under the GOONDA ACT will be arrested under a
non-bailable offence.

OPERATION ‘CLEAN-UP' IN
KERALA
KERALA (Dec '06) : In
a massive anti-piracy campaign conducted by the
Kerala police under the supervision of the IMI
team and the nodal officer Rishiraj Singh, 200
premises were raided during the month, 120084 MP3
CDs and 55063 pirated CDs were recovered.
213 pirates were arrested. This has been the one
of the largest number of arrests in a single month
in any raiding activity by the IMI.

DELHI SHIVERS
AS NASEEM AHMED ARRESTED
Delhi (Dec ‘06) : In
an excellent raid a supplier of pirated CDs was
nabbed and further interrogation lead to the
recovery of a CD recording unit from a residential
unit at Timarpur, Delhi. In another spate of
anti-piracy operations on the 12th & 14th
December, 18 CD Writers, 2
Computers, 360 MP3 CDs, 1234 pirated VCDs and
64000 inlay cards were recovered.
Accused Naseem Ahmed, a popular Delhi pirate who
has been giving the slip to the Delhi Police since
a long time and is also a and wanted in several
other cases was arrested.

DELHI :
In an excellent raid a supplier of
pirated CDs was nabbed and further interrogation
lead to recovery of a CD recording unit from a
residential unit at Timarpur.
In another
anti-piracy action 18 CD Writers, 2
Computers, 360 MP3 CDs, 1234 pirated VCDs and
64000 inlay cards were recovered.
Accused Naseem Ahmed was arrested.
Simultaneous raids were conducted on
3 premises in Shahdara, Trilokpuri and Prahladpur
area of Delhi on 22nd and 23rd December.
5 CD Writers, 2330 MP3 CDs, 7061 pirated
VCDs and 5100 inlay cards were
recovered. 4 persons were arrested.
205 MP3 CDs and 380 pirated VCDs
were seized from a shop in Nehru Place, Delhi on
4th December. Owner KundanLal was
arrested.
3 vendors and a residential premise
were searched in Sarai Kale Khan area of Delhi on
6th December. 741 MP3 CDs and 1904
pirated VCDs were seized. Owner
Ganesh Choudhary was arrested.

PUNJAB:
Muktsar City
(5th of November) A raid was conducted on a shop called Ajay Video
in Muktsar City . Interrogation of
the owner led to further raids at two residential
premises in the city. A total of 608
pirated cassettes, 785 MP3 CDs and 1640 pirated
VCDs were seized. Owners, Ajay
Kumar, Satish Kumar and Anil Kumar were
arrested.
On Bank Road, Muktsar on the 14th of
December a shop called Sony Music World was
searched. 817 pirated cassettes were
seized. Owner Ajay Sony was arrested.
Chandigarh (12th December)
245 MP3 CDs and 773 pirated VCDs
were recovered from the premises of K.K. Audio
Video in Chandigarh. Owner
Naresh Kumar was arrested. (Seizure includes
55 VCDs of Warner titles).
On the 29th of December 2 shops, Sonu Music Center and K.P.
Music Center were searched in Azad Market, Sector
20D, Chandigarh.
453 MP3 CDs and 1294 pirated VCDs
were seized. 2 persons, Raj Kumar and Ishwar
were arrested. (Seizure includes 127 VCDs of
Warner titles).
Patiala (15th
December)
8 DVD Writers, 6 Computers, 520 MP3 CDs,
1200 blank CDs, 913 pirated VCDs and 86600 inlay
cards were seized from the premises of
Subhash Video Lab, Near Bus Stand, Patda . Owner Rajesh Kumar was
arrested. (Seizure includes 60 VCDs of
Warner titles).
Jalandhar (16th January)
2 shops were searched in a raid conducted in
Noormahal area of Dist. Jalandhar.
637 MP3 CDs and 1223 pirated
VCDs were recovered. 2 persons Amarjit
Singh and Kulvinder Kumar were arrested.
Amritsar (25th December) A shop called J.K. Music was searched in Rambagh,
Amritsar. 701 MP3
CDs and 7287 pirated VCDs were
seized. Accused Mohan Lal was
arrested. (Seizure includes 380 VCDs of
Warner titles).

December)
469 MP3 CDs and 462 pirated VCDs were seized from
a vendor at Mohanlal Ganj, Lucknow. Owner Anurag Tiwari was
arrested.
Gorakhpur (4th December)
In an excellent raid a CD recording unit was
seized from a residential unit at Khorabar,
Gorakhpur. 43 CD
Writers, 225 MP3 CDs, 2179 pirated VCDs and 152540
inlay cards were recovered. Owner
Satish Mourya was arrested
Hardoi (9th December)
361 MP3 CDs and 3443 pirated VCDs
were seized from a shop called Deepak Electronics
in Hardoi. Owner Deepak
Sharma was arrested.
Mathura (10th December) 2
shops were raided near Brij Vihar Hotel. 302 MP3 CDs and
2408 pirated VCDs were seized. 2
persons, Anil Kumar and Deepak Kumar were
arrested.
Muzaffarnagar (16th December) In an excellent raid a shop called Regal
Electronics was searched in Raj Market area of
Muzaffarnagar. 27
CD Writers, 480 MP3 CDs and 12470 inlay
cards were seized.

(12th December):- 3 suo motu raids were conducted by the
Rajasthan police in Jayanti Market and Vaishali
Nagar area of Jaipur. 1286
MP3 CDs and 3692 pirated VCDs were seized. 4

Bundi (6th December):-
In a suo motu action taken by the Rajasthan
police, 3 shops were searched in Bundi Rajasthan. 2023 pirated VCDs were
seized. 3 persons were arrested.

searched on 27th December. 24 CD
Writers, 2 Computers, 2000 MP3 CDs, 4240 pirated
VCDs and 10000 inlay cards were
seized. Owners, Manoj Kumar and Jayant Kumar
were arrested.

and 2885 pirated VCDs were recovered from the
premises of Raj Video Library at Memari, Dist.

VCDs were seized from a shop in Devipur,

seized from a shop called Munna Electronics at
Santragachi, Howrah on 26th December. Owner

Howrah Rly. Stn. on 19th December. 125 MP3
CDs and 208 pirated VCDs were seized. Owner

December) :- In a suo motu raid
120 pirated VCDs were recovered from Chauhan
Electronics in Bazarpara, Dakshin Dinajpur. 1 person was arrested.

MP3 CDs and 2129 pirated CDs and VCDs
were seized. 5 persons were arrested.
234 MP3 CDs and 1015 pirated
VCDs were also recovered from the premise
of Globe Musical Center in Visakhapatnam City 20th December. Owner Thimmana Kishore was
arrested.
Hyderabad,
A.P. (12th December):- 13 MP3 CDs and 149
pirated VCDs were seized from the premises of Ali
Shaan Audio & Video in I.S. Sadan, Hyderabad. Owner Mohd. Shoaib was
arrested.
Cyberabad,
A.P. :- 56 MP3 CDs and 130
pirated VCDs were seized from 2 shops, Savera
Music World and Sri Sai Music World in Kothpet and
Karmangal area of Chyerabad on 8th and 9th
December. 3 persons, Muthyala Krishna Reddy,
Shaik Rahim and D. Harindranath Reddy were
arrested.

remanded to 15 days judicial custody.

2 vendors and a shop were raided in
Chrompet, Chennai and Dist. Kancheepuram on 4th
December. 7 CD Writers, 840 MP3 CDs
and 1020 pirated VCDs were seized.

and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.

580 pirated VCDs and MP3 CDs were
recovered from a vendor at Anna Nagar, Chennai on
5th December. Owner Ansari was arrested and

Shop no. 249/86 and 2 vendors were
raided in Ponneri area of Chennai on 5th
December. 965 MP3 CDs and 1013
pirated VCDs were seized. 3
persons, Jaibardeen, Selvam and Anwar Batcha were
arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial
custody. (Seizure includes 232 VCDs of
Warner titles).
A shop called Arasu Electronics in
Patalam and Shop no. 289 in Burma Bazaar, Chennai
were searched on 6th December. 625 pirated
cassettes, 45 MP3 CDs and 880 pirated VCDs were
seized. Owners, Vaseemraja and Arsau were
arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial
custody. (Seizure includes 123 VCDs of
Warner titles).
In an excellent raid 1350
MP3 CDs and 3765 pirated VCDs were seized
from the premises of Alai Osai Electronics in
Ritche Street and Shop no. 10/5 in Rajaji Salai on
8th December. 2 persons, Bascha and
Shajakhan were arrested and remanded to 15 days
judicial custody. (Seizure includes 1400
VCDs of Warner titles).
2 vendors were searched on Station
Road, ICF on 15th December. 635 MP3
CDs and 675 pirated VCDs were
recovered. 2 persons, Shahul Ahamed and
Mohd. Aaroon were arrested and remanded to 15 days
judicial custody. (Seizure includes 250 VCDs
of Warner titles).
2 vendors and a shop called Modern
Electronics were searched in Vellacherry and
Gunidy area of Chennai on 19th December.
2 CD Writers, 1 Computer, 868 MP3 CDs and
774 pirated VCDs were seized. 3
persons, D. Ganapathi, Marimuthu and Raja Mohamed
were arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial
custody. (Seizure includes 588 VCDs of
Warner titles).
In a raid conducted on a vendor at
K.K. Nagar, Chennai on 20th December, 310 MP3 CDs
and 410 pirated VCDs were seized. Owner Gani
was arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial
custody. (Seizure includes 150 VCDs of
Warner titles).
550 MP3 CDs and 263 pirated VCDs were seized from a vendor at Kayambat, Chennai on
25th December. Owner, A. Rahuman was
arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial
custody. (Seizure includes 140 VCDs of
Warner titles).
12 suo motu raids were conducted by
the VPC teams of Chennai during the month. 5
CD Writers, 5 MP3 CDs and 4169 pirated VCDs were
seized. 12 persons were arrested and
remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
Villupuram
(7th
December):- 1275 MP3 CDs and 1098 pirated
VCDs were recovered from the premises of
Kalai Telecom & Musicals and a vendor at
Kallakurichi Bus Stand, Dist. Villupuram. 2 persons, Santosh and Senthil
were arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial
custody.
In a raid conducted at Dindivanam,
Dist. Villupuram on 8th December, 695 MP3
CDs and 372 pirated VCDs were
seized. Owner Palani was arrested and
remanded to 15 days judicial custody.

Kanchipuram
(13th December):- 313 MP3 CDs and 231 pirated VCDs were
seized from a vendor on Gandhi Road, Dist.
Kanchipuram. Owner
Kottiswaran was arrested and remanded to 15 days

of Warner titles).
Vellore,
T.N. :- 8 CD Writers, 130 MP3
CDs and 3079 pirated VCDs were recovered from 5
suo motu raids conducted by the T.N. police in
December. 5 persons were arrested and
remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
Cuddalore,
T.N. :- In 4 suo motu
raids conducted by the T.N. Police in Cuddalore in
December, 2355 MP3 CDs and 1203 pirated CDs were
seized. 4 persons were arrested and remanded
to 15 days judicial custody.
Salem, T.N.
:- 6 suo motu raids were conducted in Dist.
Salem during the month. 33 MP3 CDs and 1093
pirated VCDs were seized. 6 persons were
arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
Madurai, T.N.
:- 7 suo motu raids were
conducted in Madurai during the month. 1766
MP3 CDs and 2718 pirated VCDs were seized. 7
persons were arrested and remanded to 15 days
judicial custody.
Trichy, T.N.
:- 2659 MP3 CDs and 2471 pirated CDs and
VCDs were seized in 7 suo motu raids conducted in
Trichy in the month of December. 11 persons
were arrested and remanded to 15 days judicial
custody.
Tirunelvelli,
T.N. :- 4 CD Writers, 5393 MP3
CDs and 10165 pirated VCDs were recovered in 4
raids conducted by T.N. police in Triunvelli
during the month. 5 persons were
arrested.
Dindigul,
T.N. :- 2632 MP3 CDs, 300
pirated CDs and 1153 pirated cassettes were seized
in 5 suo motu raids conducted by the T.N.
police in Dindigul during the month. 5
persons were arrested and remanded to 15 days

conducted in Coimbatore in December, 1 Computer/CD

These daring pirates making
a fast buck outside legitimate Music outlets were
promptly punished by the LAW due to efforts of the IMI
team. Over the past year the number of these pirates has
been drastically declining but neverthless the IMI team
has been closely monitoring areas around legitimate
outlets especially Planet M and
Music World.

Raid on 2 shops in Ritchie Street, Chennai on 8th

IMI
conducts extensive Training Programs
This December IMI conducted
extensive training programs in various parts of the
country. In Kerala the schedule was as below :-

Trivandrum on the 16th of December
Training of
officers of Waynad on the 17th of Dec.
Training of
officers of Kasargode on the 18th of Dec.
Training
for officers on Kozhikode rural and Calicut city on 19th
of Dec.
Training for officers in Alappey in the 27th
of Dec.
Training for officers of Kollam District on
the 28th of Dec
The IMI team visited the
Rajasthan Police Academy and gave an exhaustive training
to the officers on the 1st and 9th of December.
In Kokata on the 9th of
December an extensive seminar on anti-piracy was held at
the NUJS.
In Mumbai on the 17th of
December training was conducted for the Public
Prosecutors. This was the first of its kind training
ever conducted by any such body in India.
The response to all the
training seminars have been phenomenal and in view of
this IMI has planned to periodically conduct such
seminars all across the country. Through such training
seminars the IMI not only injects the legal system with
the operation plan and preparedness against piracy but
also upgrades system in the various new tactics deployed
to spread piracy.

PR Activity
Since its early days of
raid-operations The IMI has always beleived in the power
of the media. To make the Common Man and the Legal
System of our country aware of the dreaded ill-effects
of fast spreading music-piracy, this month the IMI has
gone a step further and co-ordinated with the media and
the press and covered the raid events LIVE.
Cheers to the unrelenting
efforts of the IMI team, The LOCAL Press and NEWS
Channels which have always been averse to such raid
events have become very active even in the smaller towns
and are keen to unmask these anti-social elements..

Local Press covered a raid on a vendor at Mohanlal Ganj,
Lucknow.
On the 4th December the local T.V. covered
a raid on a unit at Khorabar, Gorakhpur.
On the 9th December the local media

covered a raid on 2 shops in Mathura.
On the 15th December the Local news
channels and ETV Sahara covered a raid on a shop in
Patna.
On the 27th December the local press
covered the raid on a unit in Kankarbagh, Patna.

covered a raid on a shop in Rambagh, Amritsar.
CD PLANT ACTIVITY
An innovative strategy, The IMI has
delegated the operation of raids, on specific CD-PLANTS
with hi-flying owners who have been giving the slip to
the LAW, to a dedicated team of seasoned professionals
which co-ordinates with the TOP authorities of the state
Police and the CBI.
This December saw the noose being
tightened on the below-mentioned:-
On the 27th December 2006 the IMI team
visited Anant Electronics Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai. On the 7th December 2006, the CBI raided a CD
Plant in Delhi.
